Trauma sensitive

When you are opening yourself to trust our artist-practicioners, we hold space with great gratitude + gentleness. An intensive session may be emotional or heavy, but is an effective method of being present with unintegrated or disregarded aspects of ourselves, which need our attention to heal. We believe that imprinting has a sincerely profound influence on recovery processes.

from the roots

For thousands of years, manual (machine-free) tattooing has represented personal totems, trials, + rites of passage for human history. Our mission as Sacred Pokes is to honor the honest origins of Imprint Art, in a world where it has all too often become industrialized + colonized. We recognize the growing culture of body decor as an asset to our creative freedom, so it is our belief that manual imprint ornamentation offers a background-inclusive medium.

Some of the ways we maintain a more sustainable practice, include creating opportunities inherent in our structure with regard to social equity + environmental wellbeing. In effort to reduce the terrestrial impact of body art, sessions have percentages dedicated to providing us with ethically sourced + eco friendly products. Meanwhile, those marginalized seeking this medicine for trauma resolution may qualify for Outreach Sessions on partial scholarship.

+ INK WITH A CAUSE +

Sacred Pokes aims to be sustainably supportive as possible, for both our patients + the products which support this practice. Contributing in a variety of ways, the goal is to spread as all-encompassing a change as possible. Wholeheartedly, we believe that conscious body ornamentation can create an incredibly impactful evolution for our world.

Our project, Ink With a Cause, has multiple avenues of  benefit.

Sustainable Services

A portion of sessions with Sacred Pokes goes to Ink With a Cause, stocking us with eco-safe products for body art application. This process usually produces unnecessary amounts of unhealthy waste, polluting the environment + engaging with systems that destroy our Earth. Ink With a Cause sees to it that otherwise environmentally harmful supplies, instead derive from sustainable sources.


Examples of our choices for providers are those who: can supply us with paperless or recycled disposable towels, disposable nitrile gloves that are biodegradable to be safer for landfills, carbon offset* their shipments, send monetary support of their revenue to communities in need, etc.


Sustainable session IWAC percentages apply only to complete ceremony appointments; this does not include trades, Donation Designs, benefit events, + Scholarships/Outreach Sessions.

* (counteracting harmful emissions by funding pollution reduction projects)

Another way Ink With a Cause connects to advocacy arts, is through donating a percentage of proceeds from select seasonal designs or events. Some recipients of these donations have included:


  • LifeStraws + portable solar power being directly delivered to those without water or electricity in Puerto Rico
  • The KIND Project (Kids in Need of Defense)
  • The Florence Project

These specified, lower-cost appointments are available for sliding scale accommodation, or a partial scholarship. Please email with the subject line stating “OUTREACH SESSION” to inquire if this applies to you; please be patient as there may be a waitlist.


Eligibility for Outreach Sessions is open for:

• Those whose bloodline is part of the diaspora.

• Abuse survivors, or disabled folks.

• Full time artists, caretakers, activists, & organizers.

• People owed societal reparations due to discrimination, or who have been impoverished.

• Those who are part of the Gender & Sexual Minorities (LGBTQx) communities.
