What’s Integrated Astrology?
With the belief that astrology is multidimensional, Integrated Astrology starts with the Sidereal (pre-colonial) system to begin at the core, and reverse-engineers popular distortions of star reading into clarity. The essence of Integrated Astrology is to include every viewpoint + build bridges of resolve through these perspectives.
Sidereal Astrology, for those unfamiliar, is a measurement system that differs from Westernized “newspaper” astrology. This undiluted method reflects the present placements in the sky more precisely, acutely aligned to current mathematics. Variations of Sidereal are also known as Galactic, + Jyotish (Vedic) - the latter having set the stage of medical astrology, Ayurveda, + yogic practice.
The measurement system of Tropical Astrology, on the other hand, is what most Westerners have exposure to. Casually, we refer to it as “newspaper astrology.” It is based on the seasons, so has an agricultural use; but has become outdated over the procession of Equinoxes slowly shifting our place in the zodiac wheel. Through Integrated practice, we observe Tropical to reflect on societal impressions.
The intention Integrated Astrology holds is bringing awareness to + cohesion between several styles of astrology, as it is how we receive a wholesome view for introspective application. We see ourselves + others less objectively, yet more by spiritual character or tribal role.

- Ayanamsa is the term used to describe the Zodiac’s root point, its beginning. It is from Sanskrit, breaking down to mean “component” and “movement.” Vedic Sidereal Astrology, from where the term originates, generally uses the Lahiri ayanamsa. While there is no term in Language, Native American customs would most closely parallel Lahiri for its ayanamsa. The reason for this is how Natives would depend more on mapping the stars, than calculating a formula on paper. Thus, Integrated Astrology is frequently instructed with Lahiri for consistency. Typical western tropical astrology utilizes Fagan-Bradley ayanamsa, which accounts for the differences in measurement and degrees that became distinct over time. Beginner students of Integrated Astrology will be taught how to convert Fagan-Bradley readings to Lahiri. There exists a very long list of ayanamsas, these are just the most popular. Advanced students can learn to play with and compare different ayanamsas, based in various cosmic points, to produce an array of perspective results.
- Ophiuchus, the 13th sign, is used with a grain of salt in Integrated Astrology. If we look to the sky and map locations of the constellations, which make up the signs, Ophiuchus hardly reaches into the Zodiac’s circumference. At most, we see its very edge included, the part of the constellation mostly comprising of cosmic dust clouds. This has less influence than the 12 constellations which occupy the circumference more cleanly. Hence, while Integrated Astrology students are encouraged to experiment with system variations, 13 sign astrology is considered less reliable than 12 sign astrology. However, those who have Ophiuchus placements within the 13 sign system might find that knowledge to be a helpful supplement when analyzing a comparison with their 12 sign natal chart.
- Integrated Astrology sees tropical astrology as a derivative of Sidereal, and more of a seasonal tool. While it is not the “original source material,” per say, like 13 sign astrology, it can be useful in situational cross-comparisons when employed with the foundation of a sidereal 12-sign chart. That is why we focus on integrating astrological systems, rather than segregating Sidereal as the only holy grail. Sidereal, while certainly the most accurate, can be supplemented as a student refines their interpretative skill using multiple systems. The goal is to remove language barriers around astrology, and promote education that is not corrupted by westernization or commercialization.
